      At the time of his attestation (19 October, 1915) he was a farm labourer working at Eltham for H.Tait, contractor. He was wounded in the left thigh in France in 1916 and was transferred to England on
      20 September, 1916 where he entered Brockenhurst hospital (military records).

      On 14 January, 1918 he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then to Corporal on 1 June. He was returned to battle, this time in France, and appears to have been wounded again in the left thigh on 26 August and transferred to England to Brockenhurst hospital and thence to Hornchurch hospital (military records).
