  • Notes
    • 1894 The Selection Committee of the Southland Rugby Union have chosen the following to represent the province in the match against Otago at Invercargill on the 12th inst. ? T. Molloy (Riverton), ? (Oamaru Mail, Volume XIX, Issue 6044, 8 September 1894, Page 2).
    • 1896 Football Matters. To The Editor. Sir, I see by your paper of yesterday's date, that Rugby again states, that which is contrary to fact. In the first place it was not known to the I.F.C. that the Molloys and Clarke were going to play for them until after the Riverton annual meeting, as T. Molloy wrote to us on the 9th of March stating, that at the general meeting of the Riverton club on 29th February only eleven members signified their intention to play, therefore they would not have a team, and that he and his brother wished to play for the I.F.C. I did not say, as stated by Rugby, that the reason of the players mentioned for joining us was to qualify for the Southland trials, but that they wished to play for a senior club, as reference to my letter will show nor did I attempt to make even a feeble excuse, as Rugby calls it, as I only wrote to correct the unsportsmanlike misrepresentations made by him. Certainly Winton have had a representative in the Southland team, but all footballers are aware that this club has always played as senior until this season, when they decided to join the junior ranks. The latter clause of his letter is also incorrect as the player mentioned was not suspended for a month but his application for a transfer was held over until the 6th June. I am, &c, Thos. F. Smyth, Hon. Sec. I.F.C. [The letter from Messrs Molloy, which has been shown to us, bears out Mr Smyth's contention and the correspondence must terminate here. Ed.] (Southland Times, Issue 13453, 13 May 1896, Page 3).
    • 1901 A small cottage at Gummies Bush, owned by Mr T. Molloy, was destroyed by fire together with its contents last week. There were no insurances. Mr and Mrs Molloy were in Riverton at the time (Southland Times, Issue 14887, 5 March 1901, Page 2).
    • 1913 Mr T. Molloy, of Riverton, has been appointed to the position of railway ganger at Wairio. Prior to his departure from Riverton Mr Molloy, who acted as coach to the Riverton Football Club, was entertained at a ?smoke-oh? and presented with a handsome travelling rug and dressing case. Mrs Molloy was also presented with a silver teapot by friends in the township (Otautau Standard and Wallace County Chronicle, Volume IX, Issue 444, 11 November 1913, Page 4).
    • 1914 Wairio Notes. ? Mr Alex. Cuthbertson, railway surfacman here, and a resident of 18 years?, had received notice of his promotion to the position of gang at Clinton, his fellow employees and friends decided to entertain him at a smoke concert. Although the function was got up at practically a moment?s notice it was in every way a success. Mr Tom Molloy occupied the chair, and in proposing the toast of ?Our Guest,? and presenting him with a handsome travelling bag, referred to the many good qualities of Mr Cuthbertson. ? (Otautau Standard and Wallace County Chronicle, Volume IX, Issue 458, 24 February 1914, Page 5).
    • 1923 Nightcaps Notes. ? It is with deep sorrow we record the deaths of Mrs Ernest Meyer and Miss Winnie Catherine Molloy, second and fifth daughters of Mr and Mrs Thos. Molloy, of Wairio. The sorrowing family have the heartfelt sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in the distressing double bereavement (Otautau Standard and Wallace County Chronicle, Volume XVIX, Issue 939, 24 July 1923, Page 3).
