  • Notes 
    • 1864 Kate arrived in New Zealand with her parents (vide infra). Lewison arrived about the same time (son Hugh's military records).
    • 1872 Kate was one of the pupils at the opening of Gropers Bush School (Records of Early Riverton and District, Centenary Celebrations, Riverton N.Z., 1837-1937, page 106).
    • Kate and Lewison were married in the Caledonian Hotel, Riverton on 31 March (BDMNZ, Te Hikoi, Riverton Museum).
    • 1887 Serious Charge Against A Sewing Machine Agent. (By Telegraph - Our Correspondent.) Invercargill, this day. At Riverton, yesterday, Michael Lyttelton was charged with indecently assaulting Catherine McFeely, at Otaitai bush on the 27th August. The accused, a widower with a
      family, is the Invercargill agent for the Wertheim Sewing Machine Company, and the complainant is the wife of a farmer. Evidence was given to the effect that the accused drove up to the house in a trap, and began a conversation about sewing machines. Observing no one in the room of the house, he entered uninvited, caught hold of Mrs McFeely and pulled her down on a chair, but it broke, and while Lyttelton was lying on his back on the floor the complainant rushed outside and ran away to a neighbour?s house. Accused then drove off, but was afterwards arrested and charged with the offence. The Bench committed him for trial at next sittings of the Supreme Court, bail being fixed at
